Install on your computer
Choose the right download, verify it and handle first-launch prompts.
Hanterill is a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux. It runs on your computer. You do not need an account or an internet connection to use it with a vehicle.
Choose a download#
Open the download page and choose the file for your computer:
| Computer | File to choose | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Setup installer or MSI | Open the downloaded file and follow the installer. |
| macOS | DMG for Apple Silicon or Intel | Open the file and drag Hanterill into Applications. |
| Linux | DEB, RPM, AppImage or archive | Choose the format you normally use for installing apps on your distribution. |
If you are unsure whether your Mac has Apple Silicon or Intel, open About This Mac from the Apple menu. Use the chip or processor shown there to choose the matching download.
Open the app for the first time#
Your computer may ask you to approve an app downloaded from the internet. Check that you selected the Hanterill file you intended to install before continuing.
macOS#
Open Applications, then open Hanterill. If macOS blocks it, open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, and use the option to open Hanterill shown next to the warning. When Hanterill asks for permission to find devices on the local network, allow it so it can reach the car through the Ethernet cable.
Windows#
Open Hanterill from the Start menu after installation. Windows may show a security prompt when you first open it. Review the app name and choose the option to continue if it matches your download. The first time you look for a car, Windows Firewall may ask whether Hanterill can use the local network. Allow access for the network used by your wired adapter.
Linux#
Install the package that matches your distribution, then open Hanterill from your application menu. An AppImage is a portable file; your file manager may ask you to mark it as executable before it will open.
Check that installation worked#
Open the Connection screen. With no car plugged in you should still see your wired Ethernet adapters listed with a plain-language verdict for each (Wi-Fi and virtual adapters are filtered out), and a Link down style status while nothing is connected to the cable. That means the app is installed correctly and can see your network hardware.
When you are ready to connect a car, follow Getting started. If the car does not appear, use Troubleshooting.
