Entirely local.

Hanterill talks to the car and stores readings on your computer. It has no account system or backend for diagnostic sessions.

What stays on your machine

VIN handling

The VIN is read as part of vehicle identification. In logs and exports, Hanterill redacts it where it is not required, so a shared session file does not carry a full VIN by default. Per-vehicle caches are keyed by a hash of the VIN.

Network activity

During a session, Hanterill communicates only with the vehicle over the local Ethernet link. The website may query the GitHub API to show the latest release; the application itself does not require any internet connection to run.

No subscription, and no price

Hanterill is free for private use. You do not need an account or subscription to use the desktop app.
