Captures and sweeps

What a full capture collects, how it progresses, and how to stop it.

An ordinary diagnostic screen reads the values needed for its task. A broader scan asks more control units for more readings. Use it when you need a wider snapshot and have time to review what answered.

Choose the scope#

The scanner can work with a selected set of units or a wider catalogue. A larger scope takes longer and can produce many unavailable or unsupported results. The app shows progress and coverage so you can tell how much was attempted, answered, skipped or stopped.

You can cancel an active scan. Keep the partial result only as a partial result: a unit that was never reached has not been checked. If the connection drops or the car goes to sleep, reconnect and read again rather than assuming every remaining unit is healthy.

Review a capture#

The scanner displays readings that answered and indicates missing or unsupported responses. Where you export a capture, keep its time, vehicle and coverage information with the file. The app can analyze supported capture files offline, including the sweep exports from the full-space sweeps, with a per-module line showing what answered, what got named, what decoded and what refused. Offline review does not contact the car and cannot fill in readings that were never saved.

The all-module sweeps are an ongoing effort, and coverage reflects that honestly: about a third of the CMA catalogue's modules have been fully swept so far, and the app treats unswept ranges as unknown rather than assuming they hold nothing.

Do not treat an old capture as a fresh scan. A later app release may have better names or interpretation for stored data, but that does not change what the vehicle returned on the day of the capture.
